Business ethics also known as Corporate ethics is a form of practical or skilled ethics, that inspects ethical glitches or difficulties that can ascend in a business environment. It harms(smears) to all aspects of business conduct and is applicable to the conduct of individuals and all organizations. These ethics are created from individuals or from permitted system. These values, ethical and unethical practices are the principles that guide a business to achieve the goal and sustain in the market.
In a nutshell Business ethics is about…
.Dealing, Association, Affairs, Contacts etc.
.Stressed to develop a well-informed ethics.
.Being true to the idea of who we are and what we work for.
.Having the daring to search difficult questions.
WHY BE ETHICAL?

People like to play devil's advocate and ask why they should be ethical. After all, sometimes doing what's ethical comes at a personal cost and comes from within. We cannot deny ethics question. We think and act accordingily to ethical judgement all the time, whether we want it the same way or not.
It is concerned with an individual judgement about right and wrong aspect. Decisions taken within an organisation may be made by individuals or groups, but whoever makes them will be influenced by the culture of the company. The decision to behave ethically shows the moral value; employees must decide what they think is the right course of action. This may involve rejecting the route that would lead to the biggest short-term profit.
ETHICS
Ethics provides a framework for answering these questions well. It allows us to be consistent in our judgement, provide reasons for our beliefs and to critically examine opinions. Most importantly, ethics allows us to act in a manner that presents with a set of core values and principles
ETHICS IN HUMAN RESOURCE
Human resource management is about manpower planning and development related activities in an organization. Moreover it is that branch of management where ethics really matter much, since it concerns human issues specially those of compensation, development, industrial relations and health and safety issues.
Cash and compensation plans: issues pertaining to the salaries and the annual incentive plans etc. For example,HR managers can suggest reward. While these suggestions may be based on a salary range for each position, ethical dilemmas arises when we need to differentiate employees having same skills and knowledge on the basis of rewards we give to them.
Performance appraisal- HR managers evaluate the performance of employees according to their personal expectation and if the employee fails to meet the HR managers expectation he/she will not be promoted or evaluated well.
UNETHICAL ISSUES IN HUMAN RESOURCES
Mistreating company time: Whether it is covering for someone who shows up late or changing a time sheet, misusing company time tops the list. This category includes knowing that one of your co-workers is conducting personal business on company time.
Rude behavior: Too many workplaces are filled with managers and supervisors who use their position and power to misconduct or hurt the sentiments of others by their actions and words which leads of job dissatisfaction
ETHICS IN MARKETING
When one starts a company, either online or in real life, many have hopes of striking it rich. however, not everyone wants to make money honestly using hard work, not everyone has what it takes to be successful solely through ethical marketing practices.
ETHICAL ISSUES IN MARKETING
1. Information or data collected from respondents should not used for any other purpose. 2. Researcher should not force any respondent for answers
3. Protection of data or confidentiality of data
4. In case of personal or sensitive questions, researcher should give time to respondents to think about it ,and refuse to participate in study.
UNETHICAL ISSUES IN MARKETING

Like recently there was an ad of skechers, trying to advertise their product by ruining the image of nike as we see in the picture. so it is clearly visible from the current scenario that the people and comapnies are using unfair marketing practices to advertise their products
ETHICS IN FINANCE:
Ethics in general is concerned with human behavior that is acceptable or "right" and that is not acceptable or "wrong" based on conventional morality. General ethical norms encompass truthfulness, honesty, integrity, respect for others, fairness, and justice. There are many situations where you act without considering if it is ethical or not. For example, you would not think much of someone claiming personal traveling expenses as official traveling expenses to save tax
ETHICAL ISSUES IN FINANCE
1.Frauds in the financial sector- i.e credit card fraud,
insurance fraud, telecommunication related fraud etc.
2. Insider trading- refers to buying or selling of security, in a breach of fiduciary duty or other relationships of trust.
UNETHICAL ISSUES IN FINANCE
1.delays in paying wages, interest to financiers.
2. opening of current accounts in different banks to avoid adjustments against loans by earlier bankers.
Popular financial scam of 2019-
Nirav modi cheated the Punjab national bank with unfair means and flew away and the other same example was Vijay mallaya(owner of kingfisher)

ReplyDeleteWhat are the key ethical issues for the research unit of a business, from the perspective of the business as a whole and of the individual manager of the research unit?
ReplyDeleteVery critical question i must say...
DeleteWell,The main pressure on both the organization as a whole and the manager of the unit is to make a profit. This means tremendous pressure on the research unit to arrive in a timely fashion at discoveries that can be made into marketable products. This pressure to produce results quickly can lead to managers not investigating safety or efficacy issues as carefully as they should. Drug companies, in particular, have been castigated for setting up trials to exclude types of people who might not benefit from a product (e.g. the sickest and weakest customers who most need it), excluding as outliers and negative results, ignoring adverse side effects, and suppressing negative results. All of these practices are ethically worrisome.

ReplyDeleteAssume that your employer places responsibility on you for complex negotiations that frequently involve email exchanges of draft transaction documents. One party would do a "redline" copy of the draft submitted by the other party, so that the receiver could see what changes the sender required. On one occasion, your counterpart on the other side mistakenly sent back it's redline to you so that you were able to see text that was not intended for you. Comment boxes and other evidence of what company's employees were saying to one another about their negotiating positions were included. This unintended transparency presumably occurred because the writers did not understand how to use Microsoft Word's track changes function. Using this knowledge would allow you to strike a better deal for your employer. Would it be unethical to use this material?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, it would be unethical to use this material, which was unintentionally sent to you. It is a common practice, in fact advisable, to find out as much information as possible about the other party before entering and during negotiations to ensure the best deal for your company or client.
ReplyDeleteHowever, in this case, you are privy to the information that was not meant for you. Also, since only some information is available to you, it may not provide you a complete picture of what the other party is thinking or planning, and hence only a part of the picture. In either case, you should return the email to the sender with a note that you will not be using any of the information contained in the email for your negotiations. This is the ethical position. The other party may change their position, given that you have the information, however ethics demand that this information is not used.
What are some criteria for ethical decision making?
ReplyDeleteThere are many different systems of ethics that can be applied to business. One especially influential set is the Kantian one which lays out three major criteria that enable you to judge whether narrower principles and specific judgements are ethical.
DeleteFirst, any ethical precept should be universalizable, i.e. you should always ask what would happen if everyone acted like you do.
Second, you should always treat intelligent beings as ends in themselves rather than means to ends.
Finally, for an act to be moral, it must be intended as moral. In other words, if you improve efficiency to make money, and that reduces carbon footprint, even though the consequences are good, the act itself is not a moral one.
You explained everything really well. But since there is need and importance of everything so my question to would be, What is need and importance of business ethics?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your appreciation sir.
DeleteNeed and importance of Business ethics:- Ethics concern an individual's moral judgements about right and wrong. Decisions taken within an organisation may be made by individuals or groups, but whoever makes them will be influenced by the culture of the company. So basically it shows the culture of the particular organization.
